Every Axeten investigation is delivered as a Case eBundle. It is the complete, verifiable record of the investigation.
What It Contains
- The Report in PDF
- An Attachments folder with all the evidence files
- An Audit Log of every action taken, with the time of each action
- A folder of hash files that verify the evidence
Keep It Intact
The Case eBundle is evidence. Each file has a hash, a unique digital fingerprint calculated when the file was gathered. If a file is changed in any way, even renamed or re-saved, its fingerprint no longer matches, and the file can no longer be shown to be the original evidence.
The Audit Log records every step of the investigation, in order and with the time of each step. It shows how each item of evidence was located.
Together, the hashes and the Audit Log prove that the evidence is complete and unaltered. To keep that proof:
- store the Case eBundle exactly as it was delivered, as a single folder
- do not rename, move, edit, convert or delete any file inside it
- do not break it up to file its contents in different places
You can copy any material from it into your own reports or court bundles. Work from the copies and leave the original Case eBundle untouched.
The Only Copy
To comply with the GDPR, Axeten deletes all personal data relating to a case, including backups, three months after the payment date. This includes Axeten's own copy of the Case eBundle.
From that date, the Case eBundle you hold is the only copy in existence. If it is lost or altered, Axeten cannot send it again or recreate it.
If you need Axeten to keep the Case eBundle for longer, state the period you require in your instruction, or tell Axeten within three months of the payment date.
Continuing an Investigation
An investigation can be continued at a later date, for example to update it before a hearing. To do this, send Axeten a new instruction and return the original Case eBundle, unaltered.
Axeten continues from the evidence and Audit Log already in the Case eBundle, so the new work builds on the original and the whole record remains verifiable. If the Case eBundle has been altered, or only parts of it are returned, the earlier evidence cannot be relied on and the investigation may have to start again.
A continued investigation is processed as a new instruction.
Secure Delivery
When the investigation is complete, Axeten sends you an email with a link to download the Case eBundle from Axeten's secure server. The link is valid for seven days. The download is protected by a password, which is sent separately, by SMS. Download the Case eBundle within the seven days and store it safely.
Axeten does not send a Case eBundle as an email attachment unless there is no alternative. Where it has to, the Case eBundle is encrypted first.
